TSH Test - Overview

A TSH test measures the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in the blood. Push Health makes it easy to request TSH testing from licensed medical provider in your area and get tested at a local, FDA-approved lab like Quest Diagnostics for an affordable cost.

What Is A TSH Blood Test?

What is a TSH blood test and how is it used? The TSH, or thyroid-stimulating hormone, test, is a commonly used screening test for thyroid gland health. The thyroid gland is involved in many important metabolic processes in the body and, when not functioning properly, can lead to hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland) or hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland). Hyperthyroidism is characterized by symptoms such as hair loss, weight loss, anxiety, insomnia and palpitations. Hypothyroidism presents with symptoms such as weight gain, depressed mood, fatigue, irregular menstrual periods and cold intolerance. The TSH test helps screen for both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism - conditions which can often be treated with specific medical interventions.

TSH Testing Labs

While different TSH test kits are sold on the market, not all of them are produced by companies that are certified by regulatory bodies such as CLIA and the FDA. Given the importance of an accurate TSH test result, it is recommended to select a TSH lab that is approved by both regulatory agencies and medical providers like doctors. Push Health only works with certified labs like Quest Diagnostics for TSH testing.

TSH Lab Testing - Process

How does online TSH testing work? Simply fill out the necessary information to place your request for a TSH test with a local medical provider. In most cases, your TSH blood test will be approved although your medical provider will contact you if additional information is needed. If approved, a lab order will be available in your Push Health account which you can take to your selected lab to get your blood drawn. No fees are due at the lab at the time of your blood draw. Your TSH test results will generally be available in 4 business days or less and will be securely loaded into your Push Health account. From there, you can communicate with your medical provider about next steps to manage any issues with your thyroid gland.

Online TSH Testing

In the United States, it is not always a simple process to get a lab order for affordable TSH testing. We make it easier, though, and people interested in getting a TSH blood test can use Push Health to connect with a local medical provider who can order TSH lab testing and consult on test results as needed.
