What Is Orforglipron Used For?

Orforglipron medication is a daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist (non-peptide) being studied for weight reduction treatment in adults with obesity. Orforglipron medication is being developed by Eli Lilly. Studies underway involving orforglipron medication include one 54 week study looking at the safety and efficacy of orforglipron medication compared to placebo. Another study is looking at the safety and efficacy of orforglipron medication in people with type 2 diabetes and have inadequate glucose control with insulin with or without metformin.

In April 2025, Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of orforglipron medication reported positive data from their ACHIEVE-1 study. Specifically, orforglipron met the primary endpoint of superior A1C reduction compared to placebo at 40 weeks. Additionally, people who took orforglipron medication lost an average of 16.0 lbs (7.9%) at the highest dose with the possibility of further weight reduction as the study continues to progress.

Orforglipron - Dosage and Cost

Dosage and cost information for the orforglipron prescription drug candidate is not available at this time. In the ACHIEVE-1 study, orforglipron 3 mg, orforglipron 12 mg and orforglipron 36 mg doses were studied.

Orforglipron, similar to retatrutide, is a newer drug candidate currently under investigation as an oral treatment for weight loss in adults with obesity.
