Remdesivir - Overview

Remdesivir is an investigational antiviral medication being evaluated for use in people with COVID-19. At this time, Remdesivir is not available in the United States. In the near future, Push Health is hoping to connect people who need a Remdesivir prescription with a local medical provider licensed in the United States who can prescribe Remdesivir medication when appropriate to do so. What Is Remdesivir?

Remdesivir belongs to a class of medications known as antiviral medications. Specifically, Remdesivir is considered an adenosine nucleotide analog prodrug that is converted into the active drug GS-441524. Remdesivir is thought to work by interfering with an enzyme known as an RNA polymerase in the virus, thereby leading to a reduction in how much RNA a virus can produce. Remdesivir previously demonstrated some efficacy against MERS and SARS in animal models. Remdesivir, like azithromycin (Z-pak), chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, is being investigated for use in COVID-19.

Remdesivir - Dosing and Cost

Currently, no established Remdesivir dosing protocol has been approved as Remdesivir is still under clinical investigation. Since Remdesivir is not available in pharmacies, it is unknown how the medication will be priced. Once Remdesivir is available, it is possible that some insurance plans and/or federal programs will cover some or all of the costs associated with Remdesivir medication. Remdesivir coupons may also be available online at times.

Can I Buy Remdesivir Online?

One cannot just buy Remdesivir online as Remdesivir is currently designated as an investigational stage medication for use in COVID-19 and is not available at pharmacies in the United States. Because of this, Remdesivir OTC is not available, either. People who might need a Remdesivir medication prescription, however, will hopefully be able to use Push Health in the future to connect with a local medical provider who can prescribe Remdesivir medication when appropriate to do so.

Remdesivir - Side Effects

Concerns about the use of Remdesivir medication should be discussed with a medical provider and pharmacist before use. The side effects of Remdesivir are still not well understood. People with a known hypersensitivity to Remdesivir or ingredients in the formulation should not be used together.
